DeJonte July is a visual artist born in Georgetown, Guyana, and based in Brooklyn, New York, who crafts work that merges the documentation of everyday life with explorations of the transcendental, inviting viewers to glimpse the sublime. Inspired by the Expressionist and Surrealist movements of the early 20th century, he dissolves boundaries between subjective emotion and “objective” reality, allowing feelings to reshape the physical world. His practice is rooted in portraying all subjects with respect and experimenting with alternative processes in photography, collage, printmaking, and filmmaking to capture the ecstatic truth that constitutes the human experience.
